Specifications

Tønsberg Mooring Link is a compact, galvanized steel connector specifically designed to join a wire mooring rope (or high-performance HMPE rope) to a synthetic fiber mooring tail (also called a forerunner).

Key Features and Usage

  • Function: It serves as a secure transition point between the main mooring line and the more elastic tail, which helps absorb shock loads.
  • Connection Method: Typically, the wire rope is wrapped around the body of the link, while the fiber tail is secured in the bolt (or roller).
  • Construction: These links are made of high-tensile galvanized steel and are usually (but not all) individually proof-tested and certified by bodies like DNV.
  • Design: Their compact shape is intended to minimize weight while maintaining high breaking strengths, though they are generally not designed to pass through fairleads like the sleeker Mandal shackle.
