Load testing is a critical safety verification process that ensures lifting equipment can handle its rated capacity—and more—without mechanical failure.
As an accredited testing house we provide third-party as well as MOM test certificates endorsed by certified examiners.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for Lifting Gear in Singapore
Non-destructive testing (NDT) checks lifting gear and rigging for hidden defects without damaging the item. It finds surface and sub-surface cracks, fatigue and weld flaws that a visual inspection can miss, so equipment can be repaired or withdrawn before it fails in service.
Depending on the item and its material, common NDT methods include:
- Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) for surface and near-surface cracks in steel items such as hooks, shackles and chain.
- Dye penetrant inspection (DPI) for surface-breaking cracks, including on non-magnetic materials such as stainless steel.
- Ultrasonic testing (UT) for internal flaws and thickness checks in heavier sections and welds.
Load Testing Services for Lifting Equipment
Proof load testing applies a controlled test load above the rated Working Load Limit to confirm that lifting equipment performs safely. It is commonly carried out on new or repaired gear, after modifications and as part of periodic examination. Typical items for load testing include wire rope and chain slings, shackles, hooks, lifting beams, chain blocks and lever blocks.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between NDT and load testing?
NDT inspects an item for hidden defects without loading or damaging it, while load testing applies a test load to prove the item can safely carry its rated capacity. The two are often used together.
How often should lifting gear be tested?
Lifting gear in Singapore must be examined periodically by a MOM-registered Authorised Examiner. Load testing and NDT are also carried out after repairs or modifications, or whenever damage is suspected.
Do you provide test certificates?
Yes. Test certificates are issued after testing. Contact us to confirm the type of certificate your project requires.
