Wire Rope Clips – Malleable (Galvd) Type

Malleable iron wire rope clips are lightweight, cast-iron fasteners designed specifically for light-duty, non-critical applications. Unlike forged clips, they are produced by casting molten iron into a mold, making them a cost-effective choice for static loads where safety is not a primary concern, such as in fencing, basic lashing or guard rails.

Specifications

Key Performance and Safety Limitations

Malleable iron clips are not as strong or ductile as forged steel versions and have significant usage restrictions.

  • No Overhead Lifting: Malleable clips should never be used for overhead lifting, hoisting, or suspending heavy loads.
  • Static Loads Only: They are intended for static applications where the load is minimal and constant.
  • Brittle Nature: Malleable iron can fracture under shock loads or dynamic stress because it lacks the linear grain structure of forged steel.
  • Termination Efficiency: While properly installed forged clips can reach 80%–90% efficiency, standards like ASME B30.26prohibit the use of malleable clips for critical terminations.

Installation and Sizing

To maintain whatever holding power they provide, these clips must be installed correctly.
