Aluminium Ferrule

The EN 13411-3 (formerly DIN 3093) standard specifies the requirements for ferrule-secured eye terminations (FSET) for steel wire ropes. These ferrules, often called crimp sleeves or oval sleeves, are used to create permanent eye loops or splices by compressing the sleeve over the rope strands.

Specifications

Key Specifications

  • Material: Most commonly manufactured from seamless aluminum alloy (typically AW-5051A per EN 573-3). They are also available in stainless steel (304/316) and copper for specific environments.
  • Rope Compatibility: Designed for bright or galvanized single-layer steel wire ropes with round strands (EN 12385-4 and 5).
  • Size Range: Standard sizes typically range from 1mm to 60mm, corresponding to the rope diameter they are designed to secure, with special specifications up to 121mm.
  • Tensile Strength: Suitable for ropes with a tensile grade up to 1960 N/mm².

Design Variations

  • Form A (Oval): The standard cylindrical/oval shape for general splicing.
  • Form C (Conical): A tapered design often used to prevent the termination from snagging on obstacles during lifting or pulling.
