Helideck Landing Net, Rope

Helideck landing nets are critical safety components designed to provide friction and prevent helicopters from rolling, skidding, or pitching off offshore platforms and vessels. These nets are typically constructed from high-quality natural or synthetic rope materials to ensure durability in harsh maritime environments.

Specifications

Key Specifications & Materials

  • Materials: Nets are primarily made from Manila or Sisal rope to avoid issues with rust and damage that can occur with metal alternatives. Synthetic materials like PP or high-strength polyester are also used for specialized applications.
  • Dimensions: Standard net sizes include 9m x 9m12m x 12m, and 15m x 15m.
  • Rope Size: Common rope diameters are 12mm or 20mm, often featuring a 3-strand construction for strength.
  • Mesh Size: To ensure effective grip, the mesh size typically does not exceed 200mm.

Types of Helideck Netting

  1. Friction/Landing Nets: Placed directly on the landing area to provide traction for the helicopter’s wheels or skids.
  2. Safety/Perimeter Nets: Installed around the edge of the helideck to prevent personnel and equipment from falling off. These may be made of high-strength 316 stainless steel rope mesh for permanent installations.
